Reference library: status and decisions

27 Oct 2026 — redesign, step 5: the bench
Concept A from the search study is now the app's top. The bar, the hero search and the pinned filter row are one card, the bench: row one holds the app icon, the search with the chosen filters as tokens once folded, the count inside the field, the four views and the icons; row two is every filter as a slot that shows what is chosen (Colour and Material read "gold" and "glass", not "Any"), More with a count of what is chosen inside it, then Clear all, View, Select and Save search. A slot's list opens under it at half the width; More opens from the bench's left edge at a fixed height with a friendly list of kinds, and stays put when you switch kinds. Typing opens the suggestions at the top edge of the filter row, which softens behind them and comes back on hover; the "Search for" row is one line. On scroll the bench folds to one slim row (two thresholds, eased, Rediscover and Settings leave the row), and the chosen filters ride in the field as tokens: a token opens its list, its × removes it. The old .hero, .bar, .pill and .toolbar-row rules are gone from library.css; ?ref, ?page, filter parameters, saved searches, Try words, the Same vibe filter and selection all carry on. Checked at 1440 and 390 px, light and dark, in the in-app browser and headless Chrome; the fold could not be watched in motion there. Safari and a real phone still unchecked.
27 Oct 2026 — the search study, second pass on A
Vick chose concept A, the bench, and asked for a round of fixes on the study pages before building it in the app. Done in study/search/: one clear button and no ⌘K badge, with the count inside the field (A and C; B already had it); typing opens the suggestions at the filter row's top edge, the row softening behind them and coming back on hover, so the filters stay reachable; More opens from the left edge at a fixed height, so switching kinds never moves it; the "Search for" row is one line; the fold is eased (the row shrinks away, the theme button leaves the slim bar) with two thresholds so it never flickers; B and D no longer pin View and Select under the bar. Checked at 1440 and 390 px, light and dark, in the in-app browser. Next: build A in the app itself.
Where progress is kept
Which pages are done, what is running now, what is planned next and the log of changes all live in progress.json in the library folder, and show on the Progress page. This file keeps the decisions that shape the library.
Decisions
| Date | Decision | Who |
|---|---|---|
| 21 Oct 2026 | Vocabulary approved, with light values studio and none | Vick |
| 26 Oct 2026 | The library leaves the Auspicious portal: own private repository studio-library (history kept) and own Vercel project with Git deploys, at studio-library-three.vercel.app. The portal's /reference-library/ redirects there | Vick |
| 22 Oct 2026 | Images live outside the repo, in ~/Documents/Auspicious Reference Library | Vick |
| 26 Oct 2026 | Images move to Cloudflare R2 (bucket studio-library, shared by the whole studio), filed by file fingerprint, with grid and viewer sizes made once on the Mac and served by a Worker. The library stays on the portal for now; a separate studio library app comes later and reads the same store. Packaging is the pilot | Vick |
| 22 Oct 2026 | The library goes on the portal at /reference-library/, open like /research/ and hidden from search engines | Vick |
| 22 Oct 2026 | Docs and progress sit inside the library, in the library's own style, with a footer linking them | Vick |
| 22 Oct 2026 | First pass at preview size; long pages rendered at full height; originals in a later pass, only where needed | Vick |
| 22 Oct 2026 | New ways in beside the spaces: element (the eight behind the spaces, tagged on their own), packaging form, format (photograph, web page, social post, print layout, illustration, video still, 3D render), and the material list as a library. Four materials added: brass, silk, bamboo, lacquer. Words chosen by Claude, to confirm | Vick asked; Claude drafted |
| 22 Oct 2026 | The pilot page's element, packaging and format are provisional, filled in from its space and caption, until it gets a proper pass | Claude |
| 22 Oct 2026 | Images 360: Vick authorized appropriate vocabulary additions and asked that tags not be forced. Added format design board for composed identity/interface studies; types object, architecture, food, botanical for subjects that are not packshots, interiors or fragrance ingredients; material soap for visible unwrapped soap bars. A primary space may be empty. No new spaces or elements were added. | Vick authorized; Codex catalogued |
| 22 Oct 2026 | Source labels are judged per image. New manifests do not fill Unknown sources from a named board. Existing page manifests and human corrections are preserved. | Codex, following the source-label rule |
| 22 Oct 2026 | Images 360 hit the connected Figma account's read-tool call limit after 136 renders covering 216 of 971 candidates. Preserve the downloaded batch as explicitly partial; retain the export queue and node-level tags for any agent to resume. No whole-page export/tag stage is marked complete. | Codex |
| 23 Oct 2026 | Images 360 resumed and completed: 971 images, 923 distinct, 48 duplicate links; 116 named source values plus Unknown. All 755 remaining images came from 196 new renders, reusing the earlier 216 exports. Raised the native-size batch ceiling from 40 to 64 megapixels and accepted locally bounded frames named Group, saving 70 planned calls; ambiguous group coordinates still render individually. | Codex |
| 23 Oct 2026 | All 44 dark/flat crops and 48 duplicate links were visually checked. A candle front/back false match is explicitly excluded and kept as two distinct references. The page is exported and tagged; Vick's review remains pending. No deployment. | Codex |
| 23 Oct 2026 | Toolkit & Shortlisted: 196 raster candidates plus three complete collage boards resolved; 197 usable references, 170 distinct and 27 repeated placements. Two imported layers render as transparent one-pixel images and are retained as non-images. Canvas positions, nearby siblings and Vick’s thematic notes are preserved separately from per-image source attribution. No vocabulary additions. | Codex |
| 23 Oct 2026 | Repeated references across pages retain independent tags and attribution. Toolkit adds 31 visually checked cross-page appearance links, available in the viewer under Also on these pages. These links do not hide a page placement or copy another page’s source claim. | Codex |
23 Oct 2026 — readable text review and library links
Screened the 129 webpage/tall captures across all five pages with local text recognition and inspected 54 targeted captures, including readable header/footer crops. Saved 50 concise text annotations: 32 source corrections (31 previously Unknown, plus a Jacques Marie Mage page incorrectly attributed to Skandinavisk), project/platform/creator names and keywords. Fueguia 1833 and Faena / Tierra Santa are identified directly from the screenshots. Behance and retailers are kept separate from the depicted brand. Unlabelled crops remain Unknown.
Added exact-reference and parent-page library links. Personal keywords and human corrections are preserved separately from visual tags. No new visual vocabulary, Figma calls or image generation was needed for this pass.
23 Oct 2026 — Visual References – Web
Catalogued 264 placements, 258 distinct references and six visually confirmed duplicate links. The export used 196 successful Figma reads (one metadata call, 191 planned renders and four quality checks); no allowance error occurred. All source images remain outside Git.
The page's 5,877 nodes were reduced to useful reference units: split webpage captures and complete imported layouts retain their page identity, while headers, photographs and identity studies remain individual references. Vector component libraries and annotation shapes are excluded. The nested Studio Ashby section is retained.
One flat crop and one low-resolution header were replaced with direct node renders. An imported Aquerone frame was rendered using the full Body height. Four imported layouts were cropped to their webpage viewport from the saved PNGs, removing off-canvas menus or overflowing drawing bounds; original renders and superseded JPEGs are preserved. The readable versions establish seven source names that were initially unclear.
All four dark flags are valid artwork. Two different Audrey's products are explicitly excluded from automatic duplicate grouping. Source labels are checked on the images; 33 remain Unknown. Page headings, products, projects and studio hosts are stored separately as searchable annotations. Two Auspicious studies are labelled own work; eleven GIF-named identity-guide images are represented as still previews. No vocabulary additions or forced space/element assignments. Human review and production publication remain pending.
25 Oct 2026 — Moodboard import and reference library repairs
Vick authorized country/region and visual influence cataloguing, plus searchable agency credits from social account names. These are evidence-backed context fields kept separately from visual vocabulary and from each other. Unknown sources and uncertain countries stay unassigned. Board influence never establishes brand origin.
Moodboard Exploration 1.0 (1825:1889): 359 image placements mapped; 27 collapsed zero-size layers excluded. 328 of 332 visible references imported, with 26 repeated placements sharing an exact Figma upload identity. Four nodes remain in the export queue after the Figma read allowance was reached: 1833:1941, 1833:1943, 1833:1953, 1833:1954. Twenty section exports and 58 direct renders are preserved outside Git. Some section previews still need higher-resolution repair. The page remains partial.
Reviewed all 17 contact sheets and locally recognized visible text. Added 29 Studio Frith credits from account names; corrected eight unrelated subjects formerly returned as Perfumer H. Evidence: https://studiofrith.com/work/. Country registry records user-provided Chinese/Indian classifications and official brand sources.
Header subtitle length is bounded on library, docs and progress views. Image and details panels have independently constrained viewport scroll areas; webpage captures scroll at readable width even below the former 3:1 tall-image threshold. Human corrections and personal keywords continue to win. No deployment or merge.
The saved preview repair queue contains 81 section crops below 300 px wide; these are provisional previews until individual exports are available. Four entirely missing assets stay pending rather than receiving substitute imagery. Uncertain mood, illumination, space and material tags are unassigned.
Validation: 17 library regression tests, 18 portal tests, TypeScript, portal build and structural checks passed. Browser checks cover 1440/1100/900/390 px headers, both reported image IDs, desktop wheel and mobile scrolling, agency search and new context filters. No browser script errors. Production remains unchanged.
Review: https://github.com/visualsbyvick/auspicious-living/pull/31 (draft; mergeable). Two additional regression cases verify that human corrections can clear a board influence and cannot receive a conflicting inferred region: 19 library tests pass.
25 Oct 2026 — Design keywords and vessel labels
Vick requested richer search terms for lettering, typography, wordmarks, monograms, letter A, posters and seal/micrographics details, plus depicted candle brands. Reviewed the saved logo sheets and individual vessel previews; 234 references received searchable keyword notes. Jonathan Adler is readable on 1833:2133, and Diptyque labels on 1833:1927 and 1833:1928 are now identified. The Nappa Dori mark is indexed as a seal/badge and micrographics reference. Ambiguous finishes remain unassigned; foiling and printing processes require evidence in future passes. The composed Auspicious bowl study (1833:1766) is distinct from its underlying A image; removed that false duplicate link (25 duplicate placements remain). Existing human corrections, image bytes and the pending Figma queues are preserved. Changes remain in draft PR #31; no deployment.
Search refinement: named glyph queries such as “letter A” require the exact phrase, so they no longer match unrelated lettering merely containing an a. Three search regression tests pass, alongside 19 existing library checks. Browser searches for letter A, Jonathan Adler, Diptyque candles, poster, micrographics and Subko wordmark return the expected references without script errors.
25 Oct 2026 — Icons & Patterns and ordered references
Vick requested cultural, spiritual and abstract symbol cataloguing with accurate Kamon identification, plus a continuous reader for grouped case studies. Free-text keywords extend the existing vocabulary without inventing visual tag values.
Icons & Patterns: 202 image-fill placements mapped, including small glyph crops; 181 references exported/tagged, 11 visually confirmed repeat placements linked. 65 successful native-size row/node renders saved outside Git. Twenty-one node exports remain when Figma read allowance stopped reads. All ten contact sheets and eleven dark/flat flags reviewed: dark artwork and the tiny circular line mark are valid images. Native row crops preserve readable detail.
Kamon is used for actual family-crest references (1270:167, 1270:168, 1533:339, 1533:341). The colourful mixed sheet at 1270:165 is crest-inspired and contemporary, not a genuine Kamon sheet. Buddhist, Hindu/Indic and yin–yang references are searchable by depicted tradition; brand country is separate. Tiffany packaging at 1205:720 is distinct from the separate charm search capture at 1205:723.
Collections are explicit ordered lists of stable reference IDs in collections.json. A source board sequence and a curated comparison set have different kind labels. Read together exposes thumbnail navigation, bounded previous/next, a current position and a shareable sequence link. Opening a search result can reveal its complete group without losing the individual record or original search filters. Duplicates remain inside a reading sequence even when hidden in the general grid.
The Studio Ashby demonstration is the already imported Web board (1759:190), not the uninspected Case Study or Brand Identities pages. Case Study 1772:2518 waits for Figma access. Brand Identities 1772:2588 is intentionally deferred by Vick.
Next case-study import: map one collection per original deck/project group; keep explicit slide/page order and the source landing-page link. Tag individual scenes (e.g. living room) separately so search finds the image, then offers the whole study. Do not group separate projects solely because they share a brand name.
Validation: 25 Python library tests, three exact-link tests and 21 portal/search tests pass. Full portal build, TypeScript and HTML/structure checks pass. Desktop and 390px mobile browser checks confirm ordered reloads, preserved search, collection browsing, loaded thumbnails, restart and bounded navigation, plus six symbol searches. No browser script errors. Approved visual tag values verified for all 181 imported references. Existing image chunks remain byte-identical.
26 Oct 2026 — All four pending imports completed
Figma read/export access worked again. Icons & Patterns now has all 202 placements exported and tagged (15 confirmed duplicate placements). Its final 21 references were reviewed for cultural keywords, distinguishing mixed-tradition and modern interpretations from family-crest references.
Moodboard Exploration 1.0 now has all 332 visible references exported/tagged. Four missing exports were added; 81 small previews were replaced by individual renders. Previous JPEGs remain under images-superseded/2026-10-26. The 27 collapsed layers remain explicitly excluded. Human corrections and personal keywords are retained.
Case Study contributes 99 references and 16 ordered project/presentation/curated groups. Brand Identities, authorized by Vick on 26 October, contributes 207 references and 11 ordered collections. Complete webpage captures remain whole; source headers, project links and individual scene keywords were reviewed. The Audo Copenhagen manual has 101 pages, The Audo manual 50 slides, and the Private Office extract five pages. Different brands’ palette/footer examples remain curated comparisons with separate source attribution.
All 38 Case Study render jobs and 191 Brand Identities jobs are saved outside Git. Rotated Studio Ashby slides exposed transform-origin crop errors; absolute rendered bounds fixed them. The planner supports this geometry and has a regression test. All contact sheets were inspected; remaining dark flags are intentional artwork, slide backgrounds or screenshot borders. No pending export or repair queue remains for the four requested pages. The local library totals 3,723 references across ten pages and 30 ordered collections. Human review/publishing are distinct later stages.
The reader retains its sequence when the window changes size, and offers original case-study links when available. No merge or production deployment was performed.
Final verification: 26 Python library tests, three stable-link tests and 21 portal/search tests pass, with build, TypeScript and HTML/structure checks. Browser checks cover all 30 collection cards, 101/50/5-page deck lengths, copied exact-slide links, reload, resize without losing order, original case-study links, nine searches, header widths 1440/1100/900/390 and both previous scrolling regressions. No script errors. Duplicate-only decks remain visible in Read together, and the mobile slide counter remains visible beside long titles.
26 Oct 2026 — External scope, reusable purposes and board browsing
The library is limited to external inspiration and references. Authored layouts, project mockups, component internals and personal swatch artboards remain in Figma. Eleven previously identified own-work/V1 records are excluded from the searchable metadata while source records, image files and existing shard bytes are retained. The current catalogue has 3,712 eligible references and the same 30 collections.
Added one reusable multi-purpose field: Visual inspiration, Brand systems, Layouts & interfaces, Mockups & templates, Strategy & research. Existing descriptions and formats seed suggestions; explicit values and human corrections take precedence. The fixed visual vocabulary is unchanged. Colour and ingredient topics continue to use keywords and existing colour/material filters.
Figma board is now a primary filter, separate from Source. Board section is in More; viewer section links select the original page and section together. Stable page URLs, combined purpose filters and section filters survive reload.
Presentation Best Practice is mapped: 108 candidates, 39 exclusions. Colour & Gradients is mapped: 69 candidates, 11 exclusions and one palette chart held for authorship review. These two pages have not been imported; their candidates still need the full image/source review. An Auspicious logo inside the Nanushka section was explicitly excluded, rather than inheriting Nanushka as its source.
32 Python library tests and three stable-link tests pass. Browser checks confirm external scope, five purpose choices, Figma-board/purpose combinations, reload, page-scoped section navigation, 30 collections and responsive layouts without script errors. No merge or deployment.
26 Oct 2026 — paper attribution and specimen scope
Paper studies use the existing material, colour, type, purpose, board/section and keyword tools. Source brand, capture publisher and paper specification evidence remain distinct. Download filenames are searchable evidence, with weights qualified rather than treated as physical certification. Extract, Colorplan Extracted, Colorplan, Wild and Gmund Bier remain separate; no new visual vocabulary was added. Authored palette layouts, flat comparison patches and isolated colour-name fragments remain outside the external reference catalogue. See Paper and material references for the reusable policy. Counts and the exact Figma interruption/resume queue are on Progress and in the node audit.
Progress totals and completion status now use the built, browsable catalogue for imported pages, so authored-work exclusions and completed repairs agree with Library. Unpacked partial manifests remain visible as a fallback. A regression check covers both paths.
26 Oct 2026 — full-screen viewer and personal-tag workspace
Vick approved the quieter real-app viewer and asked for a selection side panel that pushes the grid, a separate Select action, and subtle card hover outlines. The viewer keeps the board as a library filter chip inside the context box, optional Auspicious Space and Element chips, the full description and source evidence, and remembered image/detail preferences. Its controls float over the image rather than reserving a bar.
Personal tags are separate browser-local edits keyed by Figma node ID. Grid selection supports Shift-click ranges, all filtered results, a selection preview, add/remove with affected counts, undo, search and a personal-tag filter. Export/import transfers the personal state between site addresses; these files are not corrections.json. The fixed vocabulary and catalogue classifications are unchanged. The paper run still has 83 candidates pending, and the granular GF Smith colour proposal remains outside this UI work.
26 Oct 2026 — Cloudflare R2 image store, Packaging pilot
Vick created a Cloudflare account (linked to GitHub), switched on R2 and registered the workers.dev name classifiedstudio. Wrangler on Vick's Mac is signed in with wrangler login; no key is stored in the repo.
The bucket studio-library holds Packaging: 601 placements uploaded (595 in the library after scope exclusions), 594 distinct files, with exact repeats stored once. Each file is filed by its fingerprint as img/<fingerprint>/master.jpg (today's 1,200 px board export), w480.webp and w1400.webp. Stored: 36.5 MB of masters, 4.4 MB of grid copies (7 KB each) and 14.3 MB of viewer copies (24 KB each), 55 MB in all. That is well inside R2's free 10 GB, so the cost is $0. The Worker studio-library-images serves them at https://studio-library-images.classifiedstudio.workers.dev, cached for a year, with X-Robots-Tag: noindex; it never lists the bucket.
The upload took about 40 minutes at roughly 4 s per image, because each file is a separate wrangler call. Re-runs skip anything in r2-ledger.json. The library page now loads Packaging from the store and the other ten pages from their chunks, as before. Next: upload the remaining pages, then originals from Figma.
Later the same day all ten remaining pages went up. Vick created an R2 key (Object Read & Write, studio-library only) and saved it with r2_setup_rclone.sh. rclone then sent 3,161 images (9,483 files, 572 MB) in 6.5 minutes, against about 2.5 hours through wrangler. The store now holds 3,905 distinct images in 11,715 files, 655 MB in all: 425 MB of masters, 41 MB of grid copies and 189 MB of viewer copies. That is inside the free 10 GB, so the cost is $0. The built library is now 5.4 MB of page and index instead of 547 MB, and the previous build is kept as site-before-r2-2026-10-26/. Browser check: all 3,736 tiles of the default view load from R2, none broken; long captures scroll at full height in the viewer; no console errors.
26 Oct 2026 — the library becomes its own app
The library left the Auspicious portal so it can serve the whole studio and be redesigned without the Auspicious brand. Its 23 commits of history moved with it into the private repository https://github.com/visualsbyvick/studio-library; the history was checked and contains no image files. The Vercel project studio-library deploys every push to main at https://studio-library-three.vercel.app (Vercel's own address: the plain studio-library.vercel.app belongs to someone else; a proper name and domain are still to be chosen). Builds no longer need the Mac: the catalogue, progress and page manifests (5 MB, no images) are published to the image store's data/ folder by npm run publish:data, and the Worker serves them with a one-minute cache. The portal's /reference-library/ redirects to the new app. Codex's UI studies and their handover stay in the portal under Research as design history.
26 Oct 2026 — the app is called Reference Library
Vick chose the plain name Reference Library for the app. Codex's working name "Folio" is not used. From the same day Claude takes over the UI redesign from Codex, starting from Codex's theme checkpoint (PR #2). The repository and the Vercel project keep the name studio-library, and the address stays https://studio-library-three.vercel.app until a domain is chosen. The redesign recommendations doc (https://claude.ai/artifact/WVMAsxRL59sqXEH8zNKiMj) was rewritten the same day as its final version, after a hands-on study of the GatherOS app and Codex's GatherOS review.
26 Oct 2026 — redesign, step 1: search first
Claude rebuilt the library page on Codex's theme checkpoint (its Inter font, Lucide icons and tested colours), in three passes reviewed by Vick. What stays: one quiet bar with an app icon, the name and a large search; the three views (Library, Collections, Index) as tabs beneath it; filters as pills, one per kind of tag, each opening a single list, with the less-used kinds under More. Search suggests tags with their kind, count and three images, and accepts typed filters such as source:Diptyque. The grid shows images only, with a hairline edge, four columns by default and a View menu for order, size, captions and duplicates. Groups (collections, purposes, spaces) are fanned stacks in white cards. The viewer's stage is washed with the reference's own colours. Settings holds appearance, browsing, personal tags and shortlist, keyboard shortcuts and an About page; Docs and Progress follow the same theme.
Vick's feedback that shaped it: hidden, nested filters slowed him down; dense, tight layouts made tiles hard to tell apart; too much on top; the Index had too much text. Kept from the first pass at his request: the colour wash in the viewer, the Open in Figma button and the icons for each kind of tag. Links, collections in order, personal tags with export and import, selection and the shortlist behave as before; old #spaces links open Index. Not yet checked in Safari or on a real phone.
26 Oct 2026 — redesign, step 2: a search to come back to
After Vick's review of step 1 and a look at mymind. The page's title space now holds a large search over a slow, soft orb of colour; once you scroll, the same search docks into the bar. Under it sit your saved searches as coloured rings, or a few real words to try. Searches can be saved with a name and a colour picked from a ring; each saved search has notes and to-dos. A new Recent view holds Continue (the last search), saved searches, recent searches and recently opened references, so research can be picked up later. Rediscover deals ten references you have not opened lately: keep (shortlist), let go for a month, or add to a collection (marked "soon"). The viewer gains a summary box (the catalogue description, when the title differs), content-type tags set apart from the rest, a way to hide any catalogue tag for yourself, an overlapping colour bundle that searches by colour, and "Same vibe", which narrows the library to the references most like the one open. Long pages scroll the full height with soft edges. "Text in this image" is shown as coming soon. All of this is kept in this browser until sign-in arrives.
Fixed: while the library loaded, the page was laid out as one row (the body and the spinner shared a class name), and the bar's icons were missing until the data arrived. Stylesheets and scripts now carry a content hash, so a new deploy never meets a cached old file.
Later the same day, after Vick's review of the preview: the search dropdown is no longer clipped and joins the search box as one card; the search is a rounded rectangle, smaller in the hero and smaller still when docked (the name in the bar fades out then). The light theme loses its beige for a neutral grey; the dark top gets glass and a brighter glow. Filter lists scroll with the page and close when their pill slides under the bar. Image size is five steps drawn as columns; shortcuts are shown as keycaps; Settings gains an AI section (all coming soon). The viewer's stage keeps only the image, position, Fit/Scroll and close: Same vibe moves beside Shortlist, the colour swatches in the panel now search by colour, and the board sits under the title. Rediscover deals only photographs, illustrations and renders of a sensible shape. Saving a search shows what it holds, a name and a row of colours. Recent searches can be removed one at a time; the Try words change every few seconds. A loading screen covers the first moments. Speed: tiles are drawn 120 at a time as you scroll, images load only near the screen and fade in, and the heaviest blur effects were made cheaper.
26 Oct 2026 — redesign, step 3: the top uses its space
Vick's last review of the day. The four views (Library, Collections, Index, Recent) now sit in the middle of the bar as one segmented control with a sliding highlight, so the separate tabs row is gone. The filter row holds the count, View and Select, and stays pinned under the bar while you scroll, so that context is never lost; filter lists stay attached to it and their long lists now scroll. Clicking into the search makes it grow slightly and opens a short list of saved and recent searches (each removable), with no extra rows of tips. In the viewer, Fit shows the whole image however tall it is (long pages fit by height), and the overlapping colour bundle is back on the stage, bottom right. The View switches render properly. Selection is now one bar across the bottom of the screen: the count, Clear, Show only these, a tag field with Add and Remove, and Done; adding or removing a tag confirms with Undo, and tag backups live in Settings only. Tiles get a faint outline on hover and a clear one when selected.
27 Oct 2026 — redesign, step 4: the row holds, selection moves beside the grid
Vick's review of step 3 on the live app. The view switcher in the bar now fades as the search climbs towards it, so the two never sit on top of each other. Selection is a panel beside the grid again, hanging under the filter row: how many are chosen, a strip of their thumbnails, the catalogue tags they all have in common, your own tags on all or some of them (one click adds a partial tag to the rest, or removes a shared one), and the tag field with Add and Remove. The grid makes room for it; on a phone it is a sheet at the bottom. The filter row never wraps: long values are shortened, and when the row cannot show every pill the filters in use come first and the rest scroll sideways under a soft edge. More is one panel instead of a second level: the other kinds of tag down the left (with a count where one is in use), the chosen kind's values on the right, remembered between opens; on a phone the kinds become a row of chips. The "Search for …" line in the suggestions carries the typed-filter tip (source:, colour:, material:, purpose:) on its right. Checked at 1440 and 390 px in light and dark in the in-app browser; not yet in Safari or on a phone. Two concept prototypes for an all-in-one search and header were made separately, outside the app.
27 Oct 2026 — the search study and the welcome pages
After Vick's review of the two concept artifacts, the study moved into the app itself, at /study/search/, so it deploys with every preview and is read like a playground page: what the top of the library is today (the live app in a frame) and four concepts, each running live over a compact index of the whole catalogue (real counts, 72 sample pictures), with Phone and dark switches and a side-by-side table. Concept A, the bench, took the review: no magnifier, panes at half the width under the slot that opened them, a tap anywhere else closes them, More with a count and kinds beside values, saved searches as named rings, and list rows that cluster name, kind and count on the left. B is the palette (compact box, everything inside); C is new, the ledger: A's slim folded bar all the time, with a friendly vertical column of kinds; D is B at full width. pages.mjs writes study/data.json at build. Two welcome pages were added at /welcome/ (a hero where the search types by itself and the pictures answer, three cards, a short FAQ) and /welcome/about/ (what it is, how a picture gets in, the rules, what is next). None of it changes the library page.
